This is terrible but not something new. I know for fact some people talking few shooters while breastfeeding. I wouldn’t call it drinking but socialising. The result: a healthy baby. So it's not about drinking it's about quantity.

Greg, you sound so squeamish... "first and last"... The issue of alcohol during pregnancy and breast feeding is really interesting and important. It is so hard to find good information about it, and yet it decides the fate of so many people (as in this tragic story). While you'd think a clear scientific answer on "how much is too much" for the mother to drink should be relatively easy to pinpoint, the fact is that you will find very wide range of official recommendations. Many sources, mainly in the US, take a zero tolerance approach, while many UK doctors will say that a few pints a week are just fine during mature pregnancy and onwards. The fact is that real science on this issue is impossible, since you can't very well go and conduct tests. Surveys will only tell you so much. As Marika points out, there is probably a reasonable quantity of booze that can be consumed, but when health associations and governments give "official recommendations," they have to keep in mind the fact that many people will interpret "a few drinks per week" as a bottle of pure ethanol whenever you can get a hold of one.

I'm not sure if squeamish is word or not, but I certainly don't mind that label.

Fact is I'm very conservative in such matters. I'm no sure if discussions about such things belong in public.

I'm dead set against breast feeding in public (not to mention screaming kids).

Still, the article was interesting (not to mention hilarious) so I thought I'd share it.
